Test Chatter on Google Play
Chatter

Privacy policy

Last updated November 8, 2026

This policy covers the Chatter app for Android and this website. For questions or requests, open an issue on GitHub, without posting tokens or other private details.

The app

Chatter has no account, no ads, and no analytics or crash reporting of its own. Your channels, settings, nicknames, notes, filters and inbox stay on your phone and are never sent to us. Your Twitch token is stored encrypted on your phone. None of this goes into Google’s cloud backup. Reports of the last three crashes stay on your phone too, unless you paste one into a bug report yourself.

Services the app connects to

For chat, emotes, badges and earlier messages, the app connects directly to Twitch, 7TV, BetterTTV, FrankerFaceZ, Chatterino and recent-messages. Apart from Twitch, they get at most the name or ID of a channel you open. For Chatter’s badges, the app downloads a public list of who supports Chatter and the picture of their badge from our server (api.lesh.me). Your Twitch login is not sent.

Some features reach further services, each behind its own switch:

  • Linked images and GIFs. On by default. Images load only from image hosts on a list you control, GIFs from Giphy, and nothing loads while battery saver or data saver is on.
  • Posts from X and Bluesky. Off by default. Shown as cards, loaded from FxTwitter and Bluesky, with pictures from X’s and Bluesky’s servers.
  • Update check. On by default in the APK from GitHub, which asks GitHub once a day for the newest version. The Google Play version never checks.
  • Catch-up summaries (beta). Off by default. Summaries run on your phone with Gemini Nano, but Google’s ML Kit receives usage and diagnostic data, including an installation identifier. It never receives chat messages or summaries.

Every service sees your IP address when the app connects to it and handles it under its own privacy policy.

Chat content

Messages in Chatter come from Twitch users. Long-press a message to block or report its author. Twitch handles reports.

This website

The site has no cookies. Your theme choice is saved in your browser.

To see how the site is used, it counts page views, clicks on links and buttons, and how far pages are scrolled, with Umami, which we host ourselves. With each visit Umami also records the page you came from, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language, and your country, region and city derived from your IP address. It sets no cookies, doesn’t store your IP address and groups visits under an anonymous ID that changes every month, so it can’t recognize you across months or on other sites. Nothing goes to third parties. If your browser sends Do Not Track, nothing is counted. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our interest in improving the site.

The token login runs between your browser and Twitch. The token never reaches our server or Umami: Twitch puts it in a part of the address that browsers don’t send, and the page checks it with Twitch and hands it to the app.

Hosting

This website and api.lesh.me run on a server in Germany, which sees your IP address to deliver them. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Your data and rights

Logging out removes your token from the phone. Uninstalling Chatter or clearing its storage removes everything else. Your Twitch account is managed by Twitch.

You can access, correct or delete your data, restrict or object to its use, and complain to a data protection authority.

Children

Chatter isn’t directed at children. Twitch’s minimum age applies to the Twitch account you log in with.
